Post-doctoral researcher within modelling of kraft delignification

Project description
We are looking for a post doctoral researcher with experience of process modelling in chemical engineering who will in close collaboration with colleagues at Linköping university and industrial partners work on developing models for one of the most important processes in Swedish process industry. During this two year post doctoral project, the work will be focused on improving the existing kinetic models through experimental work but including AI components through close collaboration with Linköping university and a parallel projects on data-driven modelling.
Both projects will work closely with the major companies within the Swedish forest industry, Södra and Valmet, that will provide a strong industrial context and complementary data.

Information about the department and the division
Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is one of the largest departments at Chalmers. We represent a broad field of fundamental and applied research and education within chemistry and chemical engineering. Our research activities reach from fundamental chemistry, chemistry at the interface of biology and medicine, materials science, renewable energy, to chemical engineering processing, material recycling, nuclear chemistry, as well as theory and modelling. We are committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level. Academic freedom, interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship and making societal impact, are key factors in our work. We strive to offer an environment where you can combine world leading research and teaching with a good work-life balance.

At the Forest Products and Chemical Engineering division we have a long tradition of multidisciplinary approach to valorization of forest biomass ranging from chemistry and technology of traditional pulping processes to novel routes of separating, fractionating and functionalizing forest biomass components in the spirit of biorefinery and biomaterials development. Extensive collaborations with forest industry, Wallenberg Wood Science Center and strong engagemant in the reasearch and educational program Resource smart processes (where also this project will be incorporated) strengthen the collaborative environemnt and facilitate access to extensive research infrastructure.

Major responsibilities
The main part of your working time will be devoted to experimental work on kraft pulping and development of kinetic models based on that, where you will be responsible for planning, performing and evaluating your experimental work, including communication (orally and in writing) of your results. You will work in close collaboration with the colleagues at Linköping university and industrial partners involved in the program Resource smart processes and are expected to contribute to the collaborative environment in the program.

Qualifications
The successful candidate need to have a PhD exam in Chemical Engineering. Experience of pulping technology and process modelling is mandatory along with very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing. Courses in pulping technology and modelling are highly meritorious.
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
