Postdoc position in Stabilizing plant proteins with polysaccharides

We are offering a post-doctoral experience where you will work at the interface of colloidal or soft matter, plant-based foods and processing. You will actively interact with diverse scientific communities at different organizations, academic environment, and countries, as well as industrial partners giving possibilities to create a large scientific and industrial network. The post-doc position suits the person that is interested in soft matter of foods, and to design model systems of relevance to industry, for example, taking lab-based work into the scale of pilot-plant.

Information about the division and the department
The Division of Applied Chemistry, where the position has its base, is a division of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering comprising 12 research groups dealing with applied problems in relation to both organic and inorganic materials. The 12 research groups work together in a dynamic consensus targeting applications in consumable and specialty products. Our goal is to maintain the high quality of research and implement the same passion to teaching. We are situated at campus Johanneberg in the middle of Gothenburg.

Major responsibilities
The successful candidates will be expected to:

• Assure communication with other researchers and stakeholders in the project.

• Perform experimental work at Chalmers University of Technology (majority of the time) as well one to two short research stays, at Århus University, Denmark.

• Publish the findings in scientific journals and communicate them to the scientific and industrial community.

• Support existing PhD and MSc students.

• Participate in the activities of the Division of Applied Chemistry at Chalmers.

Qualifications
Doctoral degree in chemistry, physics, food science, materials science or similar.
The position is suitable for chemists, physicists, food and material scientists. However, knowledge of working in a chemistry lab is required from all applicants.

Mandatory experiences and skills include experimental laboratory work and proven scientific writing skills.
Experience of colloidal dispersions, microscopy, rheology, physico-chemical properties of plant-based proteins and of polymers is a plus.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate that has an interest in experimental work. He/she should have a creative mindset, and the ability to comply to an experimental plan, execute it, report, and reflect the progress in relation to the overall project. The project targets a traditional colloidal approach to plant-based food products.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

* The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
