PhD Position in Theoretical philosophy at the Department of Philosophy

Uppsala University hereby announces a position as a doctoral student in Theoretical philosophy at the Department of Philosophy. For this position we are primarily interested in candidates working in philosophy of language, general philosophy of science, ancient philosophy, or epistemology (including epistemology in the history of philosophy).

Duties
The successful applicant will be offered a position as a PhD candidate (“doktorandanställning”) for 4 years full-time, during which the PhD candidate will receive a salary as an employee at the department. See details about start salary below. They will also be eligible for Swedish social benefits, including pension schemes and paid parental leave. PhD candidates are expected to engage in their studies full-time and to participate in the activities of the department. The position may include teaching and other assignments. Certain duties, including teaching, qualify the student for an contract extension of their contract. The positions are available from 1 September 2024.

Requirements
To qualify for a doctoral position at Uppsala University, a candidate should hold a Master’s (second-cycle) degree or have completed at least 240 credits in higher education, with at least 60 credits at Master’s level, or have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way.

The main language for academic activities at the Department of Philosophy is English. Good language skills in English, both spoken and written, are required for the position.

For this position we are primarily interested in candidates working in philosophy of language, general philosophy of science, ancient philosophy, or epistemology (including epistemology in the history of philosophy).

Your application should include (a) an application letter; (b) a brief CV, including the names and contact details of one to three referees; (c) a statement outlining your proposed research (4–5 pages); (d) one to two writing samples (BA or MA thesis, or longer advanced texts at BA or MA level); (e) copies of diplomas or equivalent documentation of eligibility and academic qualifications. About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 7. Scope of employment 100 %.  Starting date September 1 2024 or as otherwise agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
Starting salary 2024 for Phd students according to local collective agreement is 30 700 SEK/month
