POSTDOC IN VPX FELLOW-WASTER HEAT RECOVERY FOR DESALINATION (2024-224-05737)

The Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience at Aalborg University, invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in heat recovery for desalination. The appointment starts from 1st May or soon thereafter, for a duration of 1 year and 11 months.

Job description

The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience provides cutting-edge research and teaching in biotechnology, biology, environmental science, chemistry, and chemical engineering. Our research solves important challenges for the benefit of society, and through research-based teaching, we educate independent, collaborative, and solution-oriented bachelors, graduates, and PhDs.
The department consists of around 230 employees and enrolled PhD Students, including 55 assistant, associate, and full professors. The researchers at the department conduct internationally competitive research within a range of topics and are involves in the publication of around 250 peer reviewed publications annually. At the department, we have ten high-profile research areas and individual researchers who deliver world-class applied and basic research with a mission-driven approach, and who contribute to the development of new technologies, methods, and new basic insights within natural science and engineering.

This position is funded by the VILLUM P2X Accelerator Program(VPX) in Denmark, a program aimed at bridging the gap between academic research and commercial success. VPX provides extensive support in both scientific and entrepreneurial domains, helping transform P2X concepts from university research into thriving startups or industry applications.

We are searching for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team, a forefront spin-out specializing in ultrapure water production for offshore green hydrogen. The focus of this position is to improve the heat management within electrolyzer systems vital to our water production technology. 

The ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications:

  • Possession of a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in areas such as thermal management, heat transfer, electrolyzer systems, power to X, etc., coupled with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including practical experience with pilot systems, data analysis, and modeling.
  • A collaborative nature, capable of working in a multidisciplinary team, and open to acquiring new skills.
  • Project management experience and a driven approach to achieving research goals.
  • Methodical and systematic in work practices, with the ability to operate independently.
  • An integrative and cooperative personality, possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent proficiency in both written and verbal English communication.

 

Please be aware that due to the entrepreneurial focus of this role, it does NOT involve typical academic tasks such as writing/reviewing scientific papers or teaching. It aligns more closely with the responsibilities of an employee in a spinout company.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance’s current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
