Postdoc in Extended Reality and Micromobility

Job description

Micromobility refers to lightweight, typically electric, transportation modes like bicycles, e-scooters, e-bikes, and similar small vehicles. The goal of this project is to combine experiences of riding on different types of micromobility with extended reality (XR). This opens new research opportunities focused on improving the safety of riders and understanding their behavior in urban environments. With this, the postdoc will focus on addressing how XR micromobilty experiences can be designed to accommodate the current and future micromobility vehicle innovations and what are the implications for research and innovation in the domain of VR simulators. The main motivation for this project includes research and innovation in the domain of VR simulators, creating a secure, trustworthy, and realistic environment to provide a way for safe utilization of practicing with these vehicles, developing novel VR infrastructure design, experience enhancement of users in VR environment, and finally investigating novel ways of training and education using VR technologies.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.  The focus area should be related to extended reality, human-computer interaction, and/or human-centered technology. 
  •  Academic-level English communication in writing and speaking, as it is required in daily work.
  • Proficiency in human-centered design and user studies.
  • Experience in the design and development of interactive mixed reality experiences.
  • Interest in micromobility research. 

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Strong software engineering skills for developing and testing immersive user interfaces Heads-up displays, mixed-reality displays and mobile devices, including wearables
  • Strong collaboration skills including the ability to lead and to support research
  • Self-motivated / independent thinking
  • Productivity in Unity and Blender Teaching abilities
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality 

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment
