Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Hickson Lab at the Center for Chromosome Stability (CCS)

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Hickson Lab from May 1st, 2024 (or soon thereafter), in the Center for Chromosome Stability (CCS; www.ccs.ku.dk). The appointment will be for 24 months.

The mission of the CCS is to better understand the molecular mechanisms by which chromosomal instability impacts on age-related pathologies in humans. The Hickson Lab focuses on understanding how DNA replication stress and mitotic DNA abnormalities generate chromosomal abnormalities such as aneuploidy. As well as utilizing molecular/cell biological tools, the Hickson Lab uses single molecule biochemical/biophysical techniques to analyze DNA processing enzymes.

For further details of the work conducted in the host laboratory, see https://icmm.ku.dk/english/research-groups/hickson-group/.

Motivated candidates with a strong academic and/or publication track record are encouraged to apply. As the members and collaborators of the Center are international, the working language is English. Thus, excellent English speaking and writing skills are essential.

Our group and research
The CCS is a Center of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and its mission is to advance our understanding of how chromosomal instability causes human disease. The CCS is embedded at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (www.icmm.ku.dk).

Your project
The successful candidate will be able to choose one of two projects: either analysing the mechanisms by which cells acquire aneuploidy or using optical tweezers and single molecule techniques to reconstitute the key stages of mitotic sister chromatid disjunction. Background information can be found in Meijering et al., Nature, 2022; Bizard et al., NSMB, 2019 and Sarlos et al., NSMB, 2018 on the Hickson Lab website (https://icmm.ku.dk/english/research-groups/hickson-group/).

Start: 1 May 2024 or after agreement

Duration: 2 years
