A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Hickson Lab from May 1st, 2024 (or soon thereafter), in the Center for Chromosome Stability (CCS; www.ccs.ku.dk). The appointment will be for 24 months.
The mission of the CCS is to better understand the molecular mechanisms by which chromosomal instability impacts on age-related pathologies in humans. The Hickson Lab focuses on understanding how DNA replication stress and mitotic DNA abnormalities generate chromosomal abnormalities such as aneuploidy. As well as utilizing molecular/cell biological tools, the Hickson Lab uses single molecule biochemical/biophysical techniques to analyze DNA processing enzymes.

The CCS is a Center of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and its mission is to advance our understanding of how chromosomal instability causes human disease. The CCS is embedded at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (www.icmm.ku.dk).
Your project
The successful candidate will be able to choose one of two projects: either analysing the mechanisms by which cells acquire aneuploidy or using optical tweezers and single molecule techniques to reconstitute the key stages of mitotic sister chromatid disjunction. Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with the following competences and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- You have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in biology, biomedicine, biochemistry/biophysics, molecular biology, or a related area.
- You can provide evidence of publication-standard experimental research, preferable within the areas of chromosome biology, DNA replication and repair, or mitosis.
- You have strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work productively in an international academic setting.
- You can work in a team of multidisciplinary scientists and have the potential to work autonomously.
- You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Terms of employment and employment
The employment as a postdoc fellow is full time (37 working hours in average per week) and for 2 years. Starting date is May 1, 2024, or after agreement.
Salary, pension, and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organizations. Currently, the monthly salary starts at DKK 36,412 / approx. EUR 4,882 (October 2023 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiable. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark for the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
