Junior researcher in international business and entrepreneurship

The LUT Business School is looking for a junior researcher (doctoral student) in international business and entrepreneurship to strengthen its International Business and Entrepreneurship team. We are looking for a curious mind who is interested in the reasoning behind managerial decision-making for internationalization. 

The doctoral student will be jointly supervised by Professor Tanja Leppäaho (LUT University, Business School) and Professor Christopher Graves (University of Adelaide, Australia). The doctoral student is expected to spend three months in the University of Adelaide during doctoral studies.

You must have a higher university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g. entrepreneurship, international business, management, linguistics, psychology) and the ability and motivation to complete the doctoral studies within their normative duration (i.e. four years). A fluent written and spoken proficiency in English is required. Finnish language is regarded as a further advantage, but is not required.

You should

  • be interested in writing a dissertation on research areas such as:
    • reasoning behind managerial decision-making for firm internationalization
    • firm internationalization process
    • managerial decision-making within family firms
  • have basic knowledge on firm internationalization, managerial decision-making and qualitative research methods
  • be ready to spend 3–4 months in the University of Adelaide during the doctoral studies

Job description 

  • Completion of the doctoral degree within four years 
  • Assisting in teaching
  • Participation in research projects

  • Encouraging and supportive supervision by and research collaboration with Professor Tanja Leppäaho (LUT University, Business School) and Professor Christopher Graves (University of Adelaide, Australia). 

The work will start in August–October 2023 (negotiable) with a six-month trial period. The job is based in Lappeenranta, Finland. The typical gross annual starting salary for a junior researcher is approximately 30 800 euros (plus a holiday bonus in accordance with the collective agreement).

Junior researcher in corporate activism and social media communication

The LUT Business School is looking for a junior researcher (doctoral student) in corporate activism and social media communication to strengthen its expertise in sustainable business. We are looking for a curious mind who is interested in corporate social responsibility and corporate communication on social media.

The doctoral student will be jointly supervised by Associate Professor Laura Olkkonen (LUT University, Business School), Assistant Professor Tijs van den Broek (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and Professor Liisa-Maija Sainio (LUT University, Business School). The doctoral student is expected to spend time in the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam during the doctoral studies.

You must have a higher university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., sustainable business, corporate social responsibility, corporate communication, marketing or related fields) and the ability and motivation to complete the doctoral studies within their normative duration (i.e. four years). A fluent written and spoken proficiency in English is required.

You should

  • be interested in writing a dissertation on research areas such as:
    • corporate activism on social media
    • assessments of corporate activism by stakeholders
    • the influence of social media networks on corporate activism
    • dialogue with stakeholders on social media  
  • have basic knowledge on corporate social responsibility/sustainability and quantitative research methods, and preferably an interest to develop skills in mixed methods
  • be ready to spend 4-6 months at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, during the doctoral studies

Junior researcher in sustainable production (industrial management)

The LUT School of Engineering Science, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, is looking for a junior researcher (doctoral student) in sustainable production (industrial management).

The main aim of the position will be on the interplay between digital transformation and sustainable production. Potential themes could include, but are not limited to: 

  • the role of digital strategies in sustainable production
  • the contribution of digital servitization to sustainable production.

A junior researcher must have a master’s degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g. industrial management) and the ability to complete the doctoral studies within their normative duration of the studies for the degree. An employment contract can be concluded only if the candidate obtains the right to pursue postgraduate studies at LUT University.

You are expected to 

  • have completed your studies in industrial engineering and management, or another relevant field
  • know about sustainable production and digital transformation
  • have basic knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • work independently under the guidance provided and be an active team player
  • be results- and research-oriented.

Additional assets we value

  • excellent written and spoken English
  • ability to communicate in Finnish.

Employment relationship and pay 

The employment relationship is fixed-term with a six-month trial period. The position will be available initially for one year and can be extended by three years, provided that LUT deems the studies and research to have progressed satisfactorily. 

The typical gross annual starting salary for a junior researcher is approximately 30 800 euros (plus a holiday bonus in accordance with the collective agreement).

Location

The work takes place on LUT University’s Lahti or Lappeenranta campus and will ideally start in August 2023 (negotiable).
