Postdoc in Corrosion of Metal-Cement Interface in Relation to CO2 Storage Applications

If you are looking for best opportunities for post-doctoral research, there is an availability of one Postdoc position at Materials and Surface Engineering section, Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark in the area of Corrosion related to metal-cement interface in connection with CO2 storage in wells. Position is connected to the project in collaboration with DTU Offshore Technology Center (DTU Offshore).

Responsibilities and qualifications
Postdoc work aims at comprehensive investigation of corrosion performance of metal-cement interface for use in relation to CO2 injection and storage in existing oil wells. Project will focus on: (i) interface characteristics of metal-cement interface and corrosion mechanisms, (ii) effect due to different forms of CO2, and (iii) degradation and change in properties of cement and contribution to the metal corrosion. Cement part of the work will be in collaboration with University Aarhus, Denmark.

Planned activities in the project include:

  • Cement-Metal material combination and CO2 conditions effect on corrosion using electrochemical test methods.
  • Exposure studies followed by adhesion performance of interface using various methods.
  • Interface chemistry investigation and correlation to corrosion as well as electrolyte chemistry analysis during corrosion process.
  • Use of tomographic methods (In-situ and ex-situ) for investigating metal-cement interface degradation.
  • Post corrosion test analysis of material using high resolution electron microscopy and other surface analysis methods.

You will work in a research team with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark and abroad. The position is for a period of 24 months. Project involve coordination activities with University of Aarhus.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). A PhD Degree in Materials Engineering or chemistry with corrosion and electrochemistry specialization. Prior experience on corrosion aspects related to oil and gas or CO2 storage applications or metal-cement combination is an advantage.
