The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health, Aarhus University invites applications for a position as

Postdoc in the field of vascular biology and inflammation as per 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 3-year full-time position.

About the research project

The Angiogenesis and Inflammation group headed by Assistant Professor Joanna Kalucka (https://biomed.au.dk/kalucka-lab) is looking for outstanding researchers at the Postdoctoral level to join our international team. The aim of the project is to explore the underlying mechanisms of how the blood vessels respond to tissue microenvironment and how their properties are changed in the response to inflammation (e.g., in cancer). You will explore the biology of one recently discovered candidate proteins, which we have found to play a key role in endothelial cell activation and modulation during inflammation. More specifically, the project will be based on characterization studies in murine models in vivo and in vitro, utilizing relevant models for mimicking vascular activation and inflammation, as well as tumor formation. The project will be conducted in a multidisciplinary environment at the interface between academia and clinical environment, where resources and expertise in animal surgery and clinical patient material processing will be available. However, excellent experimental methodological skill and dedication will be necessary for successfully conducting the project.

Your job responsibilities

Based on our preliminary results you will further develop your own project in the area of endothelial cell dysfunction in cancer, with a particular aim to identify new regulatory nodes in the control of endothelial cell dysfunction and angiocrine signaling. You will collaborate with other members of the laboratory and with collaborators at the institute, and you will be expected to develop expertise in areas necessary for successful progress of your project.
As Postdoc within our research group your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance. The work related to the project will take place at Department of Biomedicine, and the successful candidate will be integrated into the department. 

You will report to Assistant Professor Joanna Kalucka.

Your competence:

• As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
• You hold a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular pharmacology or closely related disciplines
• You have extensive cell culture experience including primary cells handling (e.g., endothelial cells, adipocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes, and/or fibroblasts)
• You have experience with working with mouse models (e.g., tumor inoculation, measurements, drug treatments, standard dissections and surgery)
• You have a proven scientific track-record, a thorough understanding of vascular biology and inflammation, and preferentially tumor and/or adipose tissue biology.
• Your experimental skills probably cover cell-based assays, immunoassays biochemical and gene expression analyses

Terms of employment

• Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

• The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
• Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
• The yearly base salary for a fulltime postdoc is between DKK 465,475.74 and DKK 517.872,14 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplemement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
• Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
