Postdoc in cognitive neuroscience
formally based at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
As part of your future tasks you will lead a project investigating social networks and loneliness in early adulthood. You will work as part of a research group investigating social and affective processes in healthy humans and how these manifest in the brain. The successful candidate will have the ability to adapt the focus of the project to suit their own interests.
Your future workplace
You will work at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN) with Dr. India Morrison and Dr. Juulia Suvilehto as well as our internal and external collaborators. At CSAN, we offer an international research environment with regular seminars and invited guest speakers. We provide world-class research infrastructure, including psychophysics labs and access to a research 3T Siemens scanner. The successfull candidate will mainly work on research, but may additionally supervise students and research assistants.
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
We are looking for someone with a doctorate in neuroscience, psychology or a related field. The project will use multiple data collection methods. Therefore, the candidate should have experience in at least one of the following methods, and willingness to learn the others:
- functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)
- facial electromyography (fEMG)
- ecological momentary assessment, ambulatory assessment, or similar longitudinal data collection method
Additionally, the ideal candidate would have:
- strong data analysis + statistical skills
- documented experience analyzing data using a programming language (e.g. R, Python or Matlab)
- knowledge of and interest in social networks and/or loneliness
- experience in presenting their work in scientific conferences
- published or pre-printed first author publication(s)
The position requires very good knowledge in both spoken and written English.
As a person you are enthusiastic, flexible and you have intellectual curiosity. You have proven ability to collaborate as part of a larger research team and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Also, you have proven ability to troubleshoot projects and work independently. The applicant’s personal suitability and motivation for the position will be emphasised in the assessment of applications.
A Postdoc is appointed until further notice, but for no longer than two years. The appointment can be renewed if there are special reasons.
