Postdoc in 5G Radio Resource Management

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as postdoc in 5G Radio Resource Management (RRM) is open for appointment from October 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for 24 months.The Department of Electronic Systems is one of the largest departments at Aalborg University with a total of more than 230 employees. The department is internationally recognized in particular for its contributions within Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The research and teaching of the Department of Electronic Systems focus on electronic engineering and the activity areas are organized in the sections: Antennas, Propagation and Millimetre-wave Systems section (APMS), Automation Control section (Control), Connectivity section (CNT), Signal and Information Processing section (SIP), Wireless Communication Networks section (WCN) and Communication, Media and Information technologies (CMI).The department focuses on maintaining a close interplay with the university’s surroundings – locally, nationally and internationally – as well as producing unique basic research and educating talented and creative engineers. Job description

We seek to appoint a PostDoc to take part in research and knowledge exchange in the research project with close collaboration with Nokia Bell Labs.

The Post doc position will be with focus on radio resource management (RRM) research for 5G New Radio (NR) to further boost the performance and enable new use cases.

The post doc must have solid knowledge of radio access network (RAN) mechanism ranging from Layer-1 to Layer-3 is expected (i.e. incl. physical layer, medium access control, radio link control, packet data convergence protocol, and radio resource control).

Especially experience with packet scheduling, link adaptation, power control, beam management, dual connectivity, and interference mitigation is an advantage. Basic knowledge of Machine Learning is also an advantage.

The studies are expected to cover novel enhancements to enable highly demanding time sensitive communications and ultra-reliable low latency communication use cases with stricter latency and jitter constraints as supported today by 3GPP NR Rel-16. In terms of frequency bands, both below 6GHz and higher frequency bands (e.g. 28GHz) will be considered.

The objective is to conduct the research under highly realistic conditions in a multi-cell, multi-user setting with dynamic traffic, and hence advanced system-level simulations will be an important part of the work. The post doc candidate should expect to take part in contributing to development of advanced state-of-the-art system-level simulator, related testing, running simulations, and large output data statistical analysis. All of which will be conducted jointly with many other persons using same system-level simulator.

Part of the research will be contributed 3GPP NR standardization to ensure high impact via Nokia Bell Labs, including also active dissemination via writing of high-quality scientific papers for prestigious international conferences and Journals.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance’s current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
