Two Postdoc positions in Single Cell Genomics

We are looking for two highly motivated and dynamic researchers for two Postdoc positions to start as soon as possible or after agreement.  

Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) was established in 2010 to conduct fundamental research on metabolism. It is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The Center has around 200 employees from all over the world and represents a highly international research environment characterised by teamwork and collaborations across a range of biomedical disciplines. We moved into new laboratories, offices and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower in summer 2017. You can read more about us at http://cbmr.ku.dk.      

The positions available are in the Central Regulation of Metabolism Group headed by Associate Professor Tune H. Pers. The research group investigates molecular processes that regulate energy balance and glucose control and develops computational tools to prioritize gene and biological pathways underlying metabolic traits. Project description
The postdoctoral fellows will analyze large-scale single cell transcriptomics and single cell epigenetics data of the mammalian brain in the context of metabolic health and disease (on a project that is generously funded).  

The work will be focused on identifying central nervous system mechanisms underlying weight- and blood glucose regulation. Towards that aim, the successful applicant will leverage lab data from in vivo mouse studies and single nuclei RNA sequencing to study metabolic disease in the context of mouse and human brain development. Mouse and human single cell data will be integrated with large-scale human genetics data from the GIANT consortium and Danish cohorts (over 200,000 deeply phenotyped individuals). Our research group is young and international (started in 2016; 4 PhD Fellows, 2 Postdocs, 1 Assistant professor; 4 nationalities), interdisciplinary (human biology, computational biology, applied math, neuroscience) and closely linked to leading international research groups in the area of metabolic research (Professor Michael W. Schwartz, University of Washington, USA) and human stem cell development (Dr. Agnete Kirkeby, Danish Center for Stem Cell Research, University of Copenhagen, Denmark).  

Profile
We are looking for two highly motivated and enthusiastic scientists, who ideally have the following competencies and qualifications:  

  • A PhD degree in biomedical or natural sciences
  • Solid expertise in programming (Python, R, machine learning)
  • Experience in generation and analysis of RNA sequencing data
  • Basic understanding of biology human genetics
  • Ideally a basic understanding of developmental biology and neuroscience
  • An ambitious, independent and critical mind-set
  • An interest in co-supervising PhD Fellows
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral

Terms of employment
The postdoc positions are full-time positions for 2 years. Starting date is as soon as possible or after agreement.   Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.   Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.   The positions are covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
