The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies, which is the largest archaeological environment in Sweden, consists of six sections: Archaeology, Stockholm Numismatic Institute, Archaeological Research Laboratory, Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, and Centre for the Study of Cultural Evolution and Centre for Paleogenetics.

Project description
The position is placed at the Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory. The main research focus of the laboratory is the identification and analysis of both human and animal remains from archaeological sites. Specific research questions and methods are determined by the relevant archaeological problems.

Main responsibilities
The position is full time for two years, and is mainly directed towards research within the field of osteoarcheology. The holder is expected to participate in teaching maximum 20 % on both basic and advanced levels. It is also expected that the successful applicant will participate in the daily activities at the Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory and interact with other projects as well as related contract management.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to the applicant’s academic ability as demonstrated through her/his own original research and scientific publications within the field of osteoarcheology. We will especially consider the research plan for the position, where the applicant will outline her/his intentions of the employment. Special attention will also be given communications skills and the ability to work in an international research group.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2019-09-01 or as per agreement.
