Postdoc of Molecular dissection of “repressive RNA Pol II Transcription” in plants

The Department of Plant and Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Post Doc for 2 years. The position is open from 1 June 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Marquardtlab is recuiting a postdoc focused on dissecting the molecular mechanism of “repressive RNA Polymerase II” transcription in Arabidopsis thaliana. While RNA Polymerase II transcription is usually associated with gene activation, we have previously shown that the “act of transcription” across gene promoter regions can repress transcriptional initiation from these promoters and repress functional gene expression. Genomics data in the lab has resulted in cxandidate regions for repressive transcription. You will address this question by developing CRISPR/Cas9-based mutagenesis strategies to test if these genes are regulated by “repressive transcription”. In addition, we have performed a forward mutagenesis screen for factors required for repressive transcription in Arabidopsis. You will characterize putative hits and elucidate the molecular bases of their role in this process.     The successful candidate can demonstrate expertise with the research background and/or the mentioned methodologies. The fit to the research team will evaluated in an interview visit.

The postdoc’s duties will include research within Chromatin Biology, RNA Polymerase II transcription with emphasis on long non-coding RNA transcription as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.
