At Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen a position as Postdoc in embryology is available from April 1 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project “In vitro embryo production and genomic selection harnessing Danish elite cattle breeding” (EliteOva), supported by Innovation Fund Denmark, was initiated in December 2017 and is housed at Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
EliteOva will develop and implement technologies for in vitro production (IVP) and genomic selection of elite embryos in Danish Holstein cattle. IVP embryos will be produced from top quality eggs (oocytes) and biopsies from the embryos will be genotyped for estimation of breeding values including disease resistance and resilience as well as novel traits as feed-efficiency and methane emission. The quality of embryos and calves will be studied meticulously for epigenetic and transcriptomic aberrations and phenotypic characteristics in order to verify their normality.
The postdoc will be responsible implementing the procedures for collection of embryonic biopsies, DNA extraction and DNA amplification and will also be involved in the process of IVP of bovine embryos. Some of these activities are expected to take place at a partner laboratory in Tirsvad, Jutland.
- PhD in reproduction or related area with particular focus on in vitro fertilization and oocyte and embryo culture
- Expertise and experience in handling of oocytes and embryos and, potentially, micromanipulation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity for effective team work
- General knowledge in mammalian oocyte and embryo morphology and molecular biology
- DVM with EU authorization
- A desire to engage in a long-lasting activity securing the technologies for the Danish dairy industry
- The post holder will report to Professor Poul Hyttel
- The post holder is expected to interact with staff at all levels, both internally and externally, regarding relevant research topics
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013. The gross basic salary range for Postdoctoral Fellows is DKK 33,766 to DKK 35,552 per month (level 6 to 8). To the basic salary a supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. An additional 17.1 % monthly contribution to pension will be paid by the employer.
The position is time limited to a 2 year period.
