Institutionen för integrativ medicinsk biologi
- Temporary position longer than 6 months
We are announcing a postdoc position in the cognitive neuroscience of memory at the Department of Integrative Medical Biology, placed at the Umeå center for Functional Brain Imaging (UFBI: www.ufbi.umu.se/english; director Lars Nyberg). UFBI is an interdisciplinary research center where functional and structural brain imaging is used to address several basic science and clinical research questions. The research environment at UFBI is highly dynamic and stimulating, with a robust infrastructure including state-of-the-art scanning equipment and strong in-house expertise in statistics and neuroimaging analyses. The current position is in Sara Pudas’ research Group.
The candidate will work in a new project that aims at investigating potential adaptive and beneficial changes in long-term memory processing and/or representations across adulthood. This will be done mainly by comparing healthy middle-aged individuals with younger adults by means of comprehensive behavioral memory testing, as well as neuroimaging with functional and structural MRI. A successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the project, including experimental design, data collection, analyses, and authoring papers. As a part of the position, there will also be a possibility to conduct research on existing large-scale behavioral and neuroimaging data sets available in our research environment (e.g., the Betula study, www.org.umu.se/betula/english).
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with experience in experimental research on human memory and/or functional neuroimaging methods, preferably fMRI. Eligible to apply are individuals with a PhD in a relevant field, or equivalent scientific skills. Priority will be given to applicants who graduated within three years of the application deadline. A successful candidate should be knowledgeable in cognitive neuroscience, and have good skills in experimental design, statistics, and scientific communication in English, both orally and in writing. Additionally, programming skills will be considered an advantage, but is not a requirement. Applicants with experience of both experimental design for memory research and neuroimaging analyses will be given priority. The applicant should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a research team. Emphasis will be put on the applicant’s personal suitability for the current Project.
Application for the fellowship should include:
1. A brief cover letter (about one page) that describes the applicant’s research experience, research interests, and suitability for the project.
2. Curriculum vitae including information about academic degrees (with verifications), technical expertise, employments, list of publications, and names and contact information for two references.
For more information, contact Dr. Sara Pudas, e-mail: email@example.com, Department of Integrative Medical Biology, Umeå University.
The position is for two years. Start date: upon agreement.
