Postdoc in Pharmacoepidemiology

The pharmacoepidemiological research group at Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark, is looking for one or two new postdocs for new full-time positions with start March 1st 2019 (or as soon as possible) and for two years.

Over the recent years, we have built a research group comprising approximately 15 individuals, primarily physicians, pharmacists, and data managers. We focus on pharmacoepidemiology, primarily studies of unintended effects of drugs but also development or refinement of methods and descriptive drug utilization studies. We are also involved in a number of phase IV studies, all of which are conducted on the basis of a requirement from either the EMA or the FDA. These are typically performed in larger consortia with research groups from other European countries. The group is led by Jesper Hallas and Anton Pottegård and is very active both within the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology as well as within national and Nordic pharmacoepidemiological networks. The full group currently has an annual output of approximately 70 papers.

With our increasing size and productivity, many new opportunities arise, however, not all of which we currently have the capacity to pursue. We hope to engage one or two new postdoctoral researchers to both assist ongoing activities and to pursue new ideas.

Your work will roughly comprise the following (of course adjusted according to your specific profile):

  • Support senior researchers in establishing new collaborations (and datasets), including data applications, protocol writing etc.
  • Support the senior researchers with the conduct of selected projects already defined
  • Supporting junior researchers in the conduct of pharmacoepidemiological studies

As evident, you will have a diverse set of tasks. Many of these will require that you maintain the overview of a project or process on behalf of the senior staff (of course with due support!). You should enjoy keeping track of many simultaneous projects.

The successful candidate will EITHER have practical experience with the planning, conduct and writing up of pharmacoepidemiological studies OR with conducting analysis of large pharmacoepidemiological datasets. Ideally both.

In terms of experience, we expect either an epidemiological PhD degree or similar (i.e. 3+ years) experience with epidemiological analyses.

In other words, you should consider this position both if you are a highly proficient data manager / analyst and also if you have mainly been undertaking other aspects of pharmacoepidemiological studies than data analysis. The tasks will be adjusted to fit your experience.

Further, you should be capable of working both independently and in close collaboration with others, you should be highly proficient in written and spoken English, and you should be interested in contributing both to the scientific armamentarium in our department and to our collegial culture.

You will in your daily work refer to assoc. prof. Anton Pottegård and prof. Jesper Hallas, but also engage in a very active collaboration with the full research group.

Interviews can be performed online if needed. If you will need to relocate to Denmark for the position, both the University and the research group will provide ample support.

Additional information about the position can be obtained from Anton Pottegård (; 0045 65503024).

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.

Only applications written in English will be accepted for evaluation.

Applications – including the required attachments – must be sent via the below-mentioned link “Apply online”. Only online applications will be accepted. Attached files must be Adobe PDF or Word format. Each field in the application form can contain up to max. 10 Mb.

The application must contain (as pdf.- or docx.-files):

• a motivation letter
• a detailed CV
• degree certificates (inclusive of Ph.D.-diploma)
• a complete and numbered list of publications
• 3 scientific peer-reviewed publications considered by the applicant to the most important for this position. Please notice that one pdf.- or docx.-file must be attached for each publication.
• a presentation of qualifications of relevance to the position.

Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above-mentioned requirements will not be assessed.

The University encourages all interested persons to apply, regardless of age, gender, religious affiliation or ethnic background.
