PhD scholarship in Experimental Nonlinear Optics in Gas-Filled Hollow-Core Fibers

The Fiber Sensors & Supercontinuum Group at DTU Fotonik, Departmentof Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking ahighly motivated and talented PhD candidate in the field of ultrafast nonlinearoptics using gas-filled hollow-core antiresonant fibers.

This Ph.D. project is entitled “Experimental nonlinear optics ingas-filled hollow-core fibers” and it is part of the project “UVSUPER:Ultra-Violet supercontinuum sources and pulsed lasers for the semiconductorindustry” funded by Innovation Fund of Denmark. The main goal of the currentproject is the demonstration of a stand-alone deep ultraviolet supecontinuumsource covering the 200 nm – 1600 nm region using gas-filled hollow-coreantiresonant fibers. The project is in collaboration with Denmark’s NationalMetrology Institute (DFM) and NKT Photonics A/S.

The PhD fellow will be part of the project UVSUPER and his/herresponsibility will be to develop a stand-alone deep ultraviolet supercontinuumsource. In particular he/she should be responsible to: 

    Characterize and evaluate different hollow-core antiresonant fibers for the deep-UV supercontinuum sourceUse a high-power femtosecond source to pump the gas-filled fibers and report efficient deep-UV laser at 200 nm wavelength.Develop a full stand-alone deep-UV source system for semiconductor inspection.

Responsibilities and tasks
The PhD fellow will be part of the project UVSUPER and his/her responsibilitywill be to develop a stand-alone deep ultraviolet supercontinuum source. Inparticular he/she should be responsible to: 

    Characterize and evaluate different hollow-core antiresonant fibers for the deep-UV supercontinuum sourceUse a high-power femtosecond source to pump the gas-filled fibers and report efficient deep-UV laser at 200 nm wavelength.Develop a full stand-alone deep-UV source system for semiconductor inspection.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or asimilar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree.

In particular, candidates are required to have: 

    a Master’s degree or a very good first degree in Physics, Engineering or Material Sciencetrack record within the areas of fiber modeling using COMSOL and MatlabExperimental knowledge of fibre optics and waveguides, nonlinear optics and laser physics.

At the time of recruitment by the host organization, candidates must bein the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of theirresearch careers, and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with theDanish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreedupon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years. Startingdate is 1 April 2019 or as soon as possible hereafter.
