The Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University invites applications for a 15 months postdoc position in the Vegetation Dynamics Group at the Section for Ecoinformatics and Biodiversity (ECOINF) and the Center for Biodiversity Dynamics in a Changing World (BIOCHANGE).
The project aims at understanding past, ongoing, and future shrubs dynamics by linking locally observed differences in shrub cover, productivity, growth and recruitment, with satellite- and drone-based remote sensing data collected across Greenland. Comparing local and remotely-sensed patterns of shrub dynamics across strong climatic gradients is highly important for improving our understanding of the potential biodiversity and ecosystem consequences of arctic shrub dynamics. The project builds on local observations and drone-based remotely sensed data collected at more than 15 sites across Greenland as well as satellite based remote sensing products. In addition, further data will be collected on Disko island, Greenland in summer 2019.
We are seeking a candidate trained in analyzing remote sensing data (satellite, airborne and drone-based) which has strong skills in advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and profound knowledge and interest in community ecology and vegetation dynamics. Documented skills in vegetation classification and point-cloud analyses as well as programming in R and Python are an advantage. Experience with Arctic-Alpine ecosystems and drone-based fieldwork in Arctic-Alpine areas is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
The postdoc will be part of the Vegetation Dynamics Group and the UAS4Ecology lab at the Section for Ecoinformatics and Biodiversity (ECOINF) and the Center for Biodiversity Dynamics in a Changing World (BIOCHANGE). In addition, the post doc will be affiliated with the Arctic Research Center and the Interdisciplinary Center for Climate Change Research at Aarhus University. Hence, the candidate will be working in a world-leading and dynamic research environment with ample opportunities to interact with other researchers nationally, as well as internationally, on related topics. The project is led by Associate Professor Signe Normand.
Candidates should have obtained a PhD in remote sensing, ecology, or other related fields. The successful candidate must document a strong research record as well as a broad knowledge of the field of satellite- and drone-based remote sensing.

The place of work is Ny Munkegade 116, 8000 Aarhus C, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.
Shortlisting is used.
