KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Computer Science

KTH Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) announces a PhD position for potential projects funded by the Wallenberg Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). More information on the collaborative projects from WASP can be found here: http://wasp-sweden.org/wasp-announces-call-for-collaboration-projects/

The main focus of the research will be on generative deep learning models such as generative adversarial networks (GAN) and variational autoencoders (VAE). We aim to develop novel generative approaches that are capable of producing samples outside of the source domain in a way that appropriately reflects underlying uncertainty. Generative models that can more fully explore the image manifold can be a powerful tool to generate training examples for supervised learning. In reinforcement learning, generative models that incorporate uncertainty can enable efficient exploration of unknown environments without strong prior assumptions.

The research position is a 48 month time-limited position that can be extended up to one year dependant on the inclusion of a maximum of 20% departmental duties, usually teaching. In order to be employed, you must be accepted as a doctoral student at KTH. The starting data is open for discussion, though ideally we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible.
