PhD fellow in Astrophysics

The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty ofScience at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship inastrophysics commencing 01.10.2018 or assoon as possible thereafter.

The candidate will join the group ofLars Kristensen in the Section of Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences at theNiels Bohr Institute. The group focuses on understanding the chemistry andphysics of star-forming regions, specifically by observing such regions atmillimeter and sub-millimeter wavelengths with telescopes such as the AtacamaLarge Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA), and the SubMillimeter Array(SMA). These observations are coupled with radiative-transfer models to furtherunderstand and constrain the chemistry taking place in these regions.

As part ofthe large program ”Protostellar Interferometric Line Survey of the Cygnus Xstar-forming region” (PILS-Cygnus), the successsful candidate will work onobtaining inventories of complex organic molecules toward ten protostars in theCygnus X region. The candidate will quantify the role the external environmentplays in setting the chemistry. Experience with radiative-transfer modelingand/or analysis of far-infrared/sub-mm data will be an advantage.
