At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production a position as postdoc in Modelling of electromagnetic radiation in power converters is open for appointment from August 1 2018 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 2 years.Department of Materials and Production (MP) is a wide-ranging research and educational environment at Aalborg University. The Department’s mission is to meet the future’s demands for new materials and production systems by directing the whole value chain from basic material understanding, materials’ applications in mechanical constructions, industrial production and management. The department has several strong, international and innovative research groups which comprise everything from basic science to strategic and applicable research. The activities encompass research as well as education within materials, mechanics, physics, production technique, and industrial management and innovation. Benefitting the industry and additional collaborators several innovative and unconventional collaborations have been and are developed through interdisciplinary co-operations. Job description

The research areas will focus on reducing the impact of radiating EM sources early in the design process of power converters. With onset in a well-defined geometry and electrical loads defined in the APETT power converter demonstrator, the project aims at determining the electromagnetic radiation impact on the close environment around the converter. A mapping of the dominating radiation source mechanisms and the radiation coupling to the surrounding construction elements must be carried out. This includes reflections in the construction and coupling from the demonstrator construction to the surrounding environment such as cables and equipment. Establishment of a modelling tool and a solid experience in estimation of radiation profiles should lead to design suggestion for minimization of radiation effects. A good practice for APETT power converter design that can be implemented early in the design phase and predict the radiation of the converter should be developed. It is expected that the design strategy will enable design for low levels of radiation securing that the products adhere to EMI regulations without introduction of additional actions.

Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programs at the University.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
